In both the Bible and Christian history there is a great debate about the nature of God. Some voices argue that God is pure love. Others argue that God is pure power. Some describe God as the one who blesses kings, presidents, and other authorities. Others say God dwells with the poor and marginalized and has a special concern for them. The way we worship and celebrate actually shapes our place in this debate, even when we’re not aware of it.
