For generations, most liberal Christians accepted the notion of inevitable progress. With technological, economic, and social scientific advances, life would get better for every generation, perhaps with some bumps along the way. Today, it often seems that the bumps are much greater than the progress. The future doesn’t look the same anymore. All of this would be no surprise to Jesus or the writers of the gospels. We’ll turn to their view for a powerful story of hope that isn’t imbedded in the ‘myth of progress.’
