Please call on our supermarkets to do their part:

Each year Canada generates 3.25 million tonnes of plastic waste. Much of our plastic waste comes from our visits to the grocery stores. It has become nearly impossible to avoid single-use plastic when shopping for food and other necessities. And despite our best efforts, only 10-12% of the plastic waste is recycled in Canada. The rest is burned, landfilled or ends up in the environment at home and abroad.

Our major supermarkets in Canada are not taking serious action to address their massive plastic footprint. Supermarkets have the power to help lead the way to dramatically reduce the amount of single-use plastic produced. From seabirds eating bottle caps to whales with stomachs full of   plastic bags, the effects of plastic pollution can be devastating.

Your Green Team is proving an opportunity for you to participate in a social action to encourage our local supermarkets to reduce their plastic waste.  Please consider printing, dating and signing the letters below, and send to the addresses provided.
