Water is such a powerful metaphor for life – and for God. It has so much to teach us. We grow in water in our mothers’ wombs. Water flows through our veins and keeps all living things alive. It provides inspiration and beauty in oceans, lakes, and rivers and is used in sacred rituals in many faiths. It also can be terribly destructive when it comes in force or doesn’t come at all – and both of these phenomena increase with climate change. Sunday, as we celebrate a baptism and learn from Jesus’ teaching about baptism’s meaning, we will immerse ourselves in the fluid presence of the Divine.
